With the royal baby on everyone’s minds these days, it’s only fitting that a group of gracious stateside Brits hosted a baby shower to not only celebrate the bundle of joy’s impending arrival, but to benefit a charity that serves families in need.
It was all tea and crumpets alongside baby news predictions at the British Consulate-General’s residence yesterday afternoon where St. George’s Society of New York feted a room of local women in support of a diaper drive to benefit Baby Buggy. Jessica Seinfeld, who founded the nonprofit that helps parents in need soon after having her first child, was behind the event along with pregnancy guru and maternity fashion designer Rosie Pope.
“[We’re] honored to be a part of this wonderful celebration,” Seinfeld said of the shower, which will help give underprivileged families the baby products they so desperately need.
Pope, a big advocate for Baby Buggy as well as women’s fertility rights, noted that it was a good reminder of “what joy babies bring to us,” alongside the need to give support and services to those less fortunate.
It was an event that made good on its promise. In addition to guests bringing bags of nappies to add to the growing pile, Mamas & Papas donated $25,000 to the cause.
