Award: Outstanding School

Describe your school’s core educational philosophy:

At A.C.E. Academy for Scholars, we have a common goal to develop the whole child in order to promote deeper learning through critical and collaborative thinking. Through unique and equitable learning experiences, scholars will acquire knowledge and develop skills to help them think logically, creatively, and productively. Scholars will understand that their mindsets, words, and actions have an impact on the world around them.

Tell us about a few of the school’s achievements or distinguishing programs:

A.C.E. Academy is proud to be recognized as a “Respect for All School” for two years in a row. We are very fortunate to share a building with P.S. 277, The Riverview School – and have been selected as a “Collaborative School Communities Program” school, allowing scholars, teachers and administration from both schools to collaborate on initiatives such as “Inclusion Revolution,” “Just Say Hi” and “Inclusive Schools Week”. Our schools embrace and celebrate the diversity of our community by providing a supportive and quality educational environment for all.

What’s new?

At A.C.E. Academy for Scholars we continually strive to make conscious decisions on programs for all our scholars and professional development workshops for our staff that allows everyone the opportunity to participate no matter their background, ability or socio-economic status.

What do you love about your school?

What I love about our school community is that all of our teachers, staff, and families have high expectations of our scholars and themselves. I share the phrase: “You Get What You Expect” because I think it clearly highlights the work we do at PS 290. We expect greatness from our scholars and by doing so, that is what we get, notwithstanding challenges, we learn from them, reflect, and come back stronger with solutions. Our scholars are very fortunate to have caring and dedicated educators and staff to support them and it is those relationships that really makes our community special.
