My due date is this Saturday, and I can finally say I’m feeling more than ready to meet this little guy. But he still seems pretty happily tucked away, so I’m planning to stay as busy as possible on that day so as not to go crazy waiting for him to show up. —
My itinerary includes a festive but laid-back breakfast, a walk in the park, time to read (and hopefully finish) this book and a dessert get-together with friends. But that didn’t keep me from thinking of a few more fun due date activities (disclaimer: if you’re expecting and already have children, this list will likely look quite different!):
10 Ways To Spend A Due Date
1. Make pancakes. (These look especially due date-appropriate.)
2. Read a book or magazine that you’ve been meaning to get around to for a while. (Not a pregnancy or baby book!)
3. Take a walk. If you’re nervous about labor, remind yourself that every person you see was born.
4. Meet up with friends–or host your own get-together.
5. Go shopping. At the farmer’s market, at your favorite boutique or department store, at a bookstore, at a street fair, wherever. Enjoy watching people’s eyes almost pop out of their head when they ask, "When are you due?" and you answer, "Today!" (Seriously, it’s like you say it and the person suddenly thinks you’re about to have the baby right in front of them!)
6. Call your mom, your mother-in-law, your aunt, your grandmother, or your best friend–before they call you first!
7. Get your toenails done. Politely explain to the horrified nail technician that your feet look like they belong to an ogre because you are pregnant.
8. Go to the movies. And get popcorn.
9. Cook your favorite dinner (or better yet, go out for your favorite dinner–see suggestion #10).
10. Get dressed up and go on a date. Don’t forget to ask your partner to get a photo of you at 40 weeks—plus a photo of just the two of you before you become a family of three!
