Get Ugly This Holiday Season With the Annual Ugly Sweater Campaign for Cancer Research

Get ‘ugly’ this holiday season with Stand Up To Cancer’s annual Ugly Sweater campaign and raise money for cancer research. Kids and parents can ask friends and family to sponsor their Ugliest outfits or host Ugly Sweater parties so everyone can join in on the Ugly fun.

‘Tis the season to dress ugly for a great cause: fighting cancer. For the second year in a row, Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) is asking celebrators big and small to proudly rock their hideous holiday-themed sweaters as a way to raise critical funds for innovative, translational cancer research. SU2C’s “Ugly Sweater” Holiday Campaign kicks off on Nov. 20 and promises to be even “uglier” than last year.

Participation is simple and can be done in two ways. Kids and their parents can create their own Ugly Sweater fundraising page at SU2C.org/ugly. Next, they reach out to their family and friends and ask them to donate for each day they can bear to wear their cringe-worthy casualwear this holiday season.

Individual Ugly Sweater participants can upload their photo and photos of friends to share a special Ugly Sweater e-card provided by our friends at JibJab. They can then send the card to friends to spread the word about their fundraising efforts, and link supporters back to the SU2C site for donations.

The other participation option is to host a family-friendly Ugly Sweater party and urge guests to give a suggested donation via the same Ugly Sweater fundraising pages. Party organizers can choose one of six custom SU2C Ugly Sweater Party invitations provided by Evite to spread the word about their event, and use the party planning site to manage their guest lists and share party details like RSVPs and directions.

All proceeds raised through the Ugly Sweater Campaign will go directly to funding SU2C’s groundbreaking research. SU2C enables collaboration among leading scientists and doctors in the cancer research community, focused on getting new therapies to patients quickly.

“We are excited to be launching an even ‘uglier’ campaign this year,” said Pam Williams of SU2C Council of Founders and Advisors. “With so many ways to sport your ugly sweaters in support of cancer research, this campaign is a fun and unique way to look ‘bad’ while doing good this holiday season.”

Participating kids and parents can help raise awareness for this fundraising effort by liking and sharing the swarm of ugly sweaters posted with the hashtag #uglysweater on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

About Stand Up To Cancer

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) raises funds to accelerate the pace of research to get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. SU2C, a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization, was established in 2008 by film and media leaders who utilize the industry’s resources to engage the public in supporting a new, collaborative model of cancer research, and to increase awareness about progress being made in the fight against the disease. As SU2C’s scientific partner, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and a Scientific Advisory Committee led by Nobel Laureate Phillip A. Sharp, Ph.D., conduct rigorous, competitive review processes to identify the best research proposals to recommend for funding, oversee grants administration, and provide expert review of research progress.
