On Tuesday, September 24th, learn how your family can go green at a special luncheon hosted by The Horticultural Society, a nonprofit that’s been serving the urban environment with container vegetable production, rooftop gardening, and more for over a century. The Green Families Initiative of the Healthy Families Series will feature guest speaker Alexandra Zissu, local writer, eco lifestyle expert, and consultant.
Zissu, an NYC mom of two, grew up eating organic, although it wasn’t labeled as such at the time. When pregnant with her first daughter, she was faced with the challenge of maintaining her organic diet—a task that kicked off the beginning of her eco-focused ways. Horrified to learn that everyday products from cosmetics to yoga mats aren’t always completely safe and often contain potentially harmful chemicals, Zissu sought to live a totally organic lifestyle—and wanted to share her experience and thoughts with others. On her blog, Zissu describes the journey from concerned mom-to-be to eco-obsessed author.
Over delicious food, parents can learn how to “green your family” in 10 steps–perfect for those who have always been interested in eco-living but didn’t know where to start. The luncheon starts at 12pm noon, and tickets are $100 each. To RSVP, click here.
