The École Expands its Scholarship Program to Reach More Students in NYC

For the 2022-2023 academic year, The École, an independent nursery through eighth-grade school in the Flatiron District, is expanding its scholarship program. This will enable more students to benefit from its dual French-American curriculum.

The school, which doubled the surface of its elementary and middle-school building in January 2020, can now enroll more children and will allocate $1.5 million to its scholarship fund. Coinciding with having more space, The École decided to widen its scholarship offering because of the growing need and demand for high-quality bilingual education in New York City, the school said in a press release.

How to Apply for an École Scholarship

Tuition for the school varies between $38,400 and $39,800. Funding received by each child depends on the specific family case. Here is the criteria for applying:

  • Current École students and new students may apply
  • Awards are based on financial need, diversity, and merit
  • Students entering third grade in 2022 must know how to speak and write in French
  • Parents must be willing to make their child's education a priority

“We, like many parents, know the value of a bilingual education. That is why The École would like to empower families to provide truly bilingual education for their children,” explained Philippe and Laurence Roux, The École benefactors. “Our signature French-American dual program, which really goes beyond bilingual through the artful blending of both the French and American curricula, prepares students for the next step in their education, whether that is in a public or private school, here in the United States, in France, or abroad.”

An average of 20 percent of families at The École will receive financial aid through the school's scholarship program. The program is open to every family, regardless of their citizenship, and can complement the grants provided to French citizens attending accredited schools by the French government through the consulate in New York.

The École was founded in 2009 as École Internationale de New York. The school blends the French and American education systems into its curriculum in an effort to cultivate an internationally minded community of students.

There is no hard deadline to apply, and results of the application process will be announced on a rolling basis.
