Among other fall highlights, the Art League of Long Island is offering a special one-day workshop in “Calligraphy with Howard Rose” on October 20 from 10am to 12pm, where kids ages 7-14 learn the art of beautiful lettering. In addition, the Portfolio Prep class starting November 13 is perfect for teens with plans for a career in the arts, as they will need a portfolio to gain entry to the college of their choice.
The Comic Book Club (ages 13-18), is also available at the Art League and taught by Anu Annam, guides students through research, discussion, and sketchbook drawing exercise to help students discover their own comic voice. Students complete a start-to-finish comic or create one to several zine-style books in the class. In addition, young comic creators are taught how to publish and protect their work. This class also provides art and writing extra-help before and after each session.
Children and Teens who love to draw or paint can take things to a whole new level at the Art League of Long Island in its nine specialized art studios. With more than two dozen classes for ages 4-18 starting between mid-October through late November budding young artists can pursue their passion for the arts with classes that explore nature and animal drawing, abstract painting, cartooning, anime/manga, acrylic painting, pastels, watercolor, colored pencil, collage, clay/ceramics, photography, and fashion design. Rolling registrations are flexible in that classes can be taken at a variety of intervals throughout the year for after-school and weekend sessions.
Art classes are taught by experienced artists/educators who practice what they teach. For example, Richard Torrey who is the cartooning/anime/manga instructor is a published children’s book author and professional illustrator; Anu Annam has exhibited throughout Long Island, in NYC, and India.
