Giving is its own reward—and so is giving thanks. I experienced a powerful reminder of that recently, when in this tribute on TODAY, Al Roker thanked Lori Rothman, the occupational therapist who has been working with his son, who has autism, for 10 years. This was not only a lovely gesture of gratitude, but I’ll bet it also offered information and inspiration to other families who may need the help of an occupational therapist.
And it got me thinking: Wouldn’t it be nice to double Roker’s gesture a thousand times over, and build a Tapestry of Gratitude, strand by strand, comment by comment, by giving thanks to people who have made a difference in the lives of our children–or families–this year? If it takes off, we’ve not only thanked a person we deeply appreciate, but we’ll be letting other parents know of educators, health workers, coaches, care givers, advocates, tutors, and others who make our family lives a little–or a lot–better.
It would then be my honor to thank all the people you thank by publishing our Tapestry Of Gratitude in New York Family. I know that our Art Director would create something just right and wonderful.
Next Steps:
Wherever you put your comment, end it with the hash tag #TapestryOfGratitude, so we’ll know it’s part of the tapestry.
You can leave your comment at the bottom of this post.
You can leave your comment on our Facebook page.
Please note: If the person you want to thank is an educator in New York City (public, private, charter, or parochial), by all means share your comments here or on Facebook, but please also take a minute to nominate them for a Blackboard Award, which exists just for this purpose–to honor local educators of excellence.
Final thought: To make this sing, it helps if we sing out. So after you thank someone special, I recommend that you nominate five friends to contribute to the #TapestryOf Gratitude by posting the link to this page — http://tinyurl.com/hdv59qx/ — on Facebook and calling out to your friends, or, if you’re not on Facebook, by sending them the link by email with a note.
And with that, all I really want to add is thank you.
