Rodeph Sholom School is proud to be the only Reform Jewish Independent School in New York. RSS’s foundation is built upon fostering intellectual curiosity through a challenging and nurturing N-8 academic program. At the heart of RSS is a warm, vibrant community, where students are guided by Jewish knowledge, values, and ethics to become self-confident and socially responsible leaders.
RSS offers students a rigorous independent school curriculum that prepares students for leadership roles at New York City’s finest independent and select public high schools. Values and the development of character are central to the curriculum and culture; our graduates are recognized as independent learners and leaders who make a difference in their communities.
Whether celebrating holidays or gathering each Friday to welcome in Shabbat, RSS students develop a keen understanding of what it means to be Jewish in a Reform context, using traditions as a vehicle to encourage open discussion. 8th Graders culminate their RSS experience with a trip to Israel, which solidifies their identity both individually and as a group, and challenges them to consider their responsibilities as Jews.
Community service learning is firmly grounded in the concept of tikkun olam, repairing the world through social action. To encourage a love of art, students explore and experiment with different mediums; our art program introduces students to music, visual and digital arts, movement and drama in compelling and engaging ways. And with 6 Middle School team sports offered each school year and multiple championships won across age groups, RSS’s athletes excel in both skill and in teamwork, competing against a variety of NYC independent schools.
