Spend A Day At The South Street Seaport

The South Street Seaport is a great destination for an entire day of family fun in the sun. Boasting everything from museum exhibitions to water taxi rides to bike rentals for a riverfront ride to tons of shopping and restaurant choices, the seaport provides a beautiful backdrop to family bonding! To help you navigate the seaport’s many attractions and amenities, we’ve put together some of our favorite activities at this great family-friendly destination.  —

The Imagination Playground:
Designed and created pro-bono by internationally
acclaimed architect David Rockwell after five years of research on play and
playgrounds, the Imagination Playground is an interactive, transformable
environment that allows children to manipulate and create their own play space.

BODIES: The Exhibit: Scientists of all ages will be amazed by this exhibit that takes visitors through a guided tour of the human body. Over 200 bodies and specimens are displayed to give a complete look at our bodies and systems.

NY Water Taxi:  A great activity for a hot summer day, water taxis leave from the seaport’s Pier 17 and go to numerous great destinations around the city, like Governor’s Island and Sandy Hook beach.

Shooting Star Theatre: A recently renovated theater that is now the primary home to Montauk Theatre Productions (MTP), an award-winning NY not-for-profit theater company that puts on readings, acting workshops, musicals and cabarets and programming specific for kids. 

South Street Seaport Museum: Featuring tons of maritime-themed exhibits, preserved boats and more, a great educational journey to learn about the city ( and the nation’s ) maritime history and culture.

New York City Police Museum: 
Another great destination for city  history buffs, this museum ( created in 1998) preserves the history of the New York Police Department, the largest and most famous police force in the world!
