This summer, Pierce Country Day Camp in Roslyn extends its activity selection to include one-on-one tutoring sessions from Private Prep. Up to three times during the regular camp week, children will be tutored in the subject of the families choosing for 30 minutes or 1-hour.
While the majority of parents have requested subjects such as reading and writing or math, Pierce is able to accommodate most subjects depending on the availability of the tutors, according to Pierce Country Day Camp director Will Pierce. The one on one sessions are designed to allow children to get the most out of each session.
The camp is family owned and operated, dating back four generations, and prides itself on being America’s first private day camp. It hosts as many as 900 campers ages 3-13 on its 27-acre property each summer for traditional camp activities such as swim, sports, and art, while incorporating innovative activities such as Lego robotics.
Pierce Country Day Camp owns its own bus company, allowing for door-to-door transportation to and from camp each day from Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Nassau County. On Fridays, the camp offers families a bus to the Hamptons instead to meet if they will not be home that weekend.
Parents can sign campers up for tutoring through Private Prep after registering for camp. This price includes a pre-camp one on one meeting with the family to ensure the camper starts on the right track, the time at camp, as well as follow up phone calls to report on the camper’s progress.
