Winter
in NYC is almost unbearable. Mountains of snow compound the sidewalks and the
cold wind stings (despite your layers). Hibernation beckons the people indoors. —
That’s
why Openhouse Gallery created Park Here, an
indoor pop-up park nestled in Nolita with all the benefits of a real park, such
as food carts, foliage and concerts—plus the added bonus of warmth. “It gives New Yorkers a free,
public space to lounge, party, read, eat and hang out,” Greg Spielberg of
Openhouse says. “When you walk into the park, everyone is so relaxed—there are
even people lying down and napping. Total freedom from never-ending winter.”
Park
Here, which kicked off a month early for its second year, has a new feature
this time around: Mommy Mornings.
“We realized that the people who enjoyed [the park] the most were actually moms
and kids,” Openhouse’s Leila Antakly tells us. “The indoor park is a unique
opportunity for them to have a spacious, warm and safe environment … when they
might be feeling a little claustrophobic at home.” Spielberg also points out
that the demographic of young parents with kids loses out most during
wintertime.
Every
day until February 15, from 8:30am to noon, Park Here is exclusive to
moms, nannies and kids. For a $200 season pass, they can lounge on beanbags or
hammocks, learn beginner yoga poses with Yogi Beans, drink organic coffee or
tea, rock out to A Singalong with Ryan and more—Mommy Mornings has a
continuous lineup of entertainment, arts & crafts projects and food vendors
(check out the calendar for December).
There are even complimentary M&Ms!
With
its beautiful flowers and picnic blankets, Park Here is reminiscent of
the warmer days of spring. Stop by for a safe haven from the blustery
winter weather!
