On The Blogroll: Baby Meets City

The NYMetroParents blogroll features the best blogs in the parenting world, from New York and beyond. Here’s a closer look at why we love these mom bloggers and dad bloggers and how they’re shaping the web for parenting today.

Blogging From: New York, New York

An NYC transplant by way of a rural island in South Carolina, Baby Meets City founder Ellen always knew that New York was her calling. Despite cramped real estate and a plethora of chaos, Ellen decided to stay firm and raise her kids in the bustling city and so far it seems to be working.

Since her initial post in 2009, Ellen and her husband have welcomed two daughters to the world – a very busy, city world at that. As they grow, Ellen attempts to share her NYC passions with her daughters, raising them with the quintessential standards (picnics in Central Park, trips to the American Museum of Natural History), as well as seeking out their own favorite New York spots.

Baby Meets City is a great stop on the blogroll for adorable tales from a mom who’s got both hands full in the city that never sleeps; luckily her daughters seem to be pretty good at that. Ellen also reviews kid-friendly books for Big Apple Books, which is a great resource for adding titles to your children’s library. In addition, since it seems like she refuses to rest, for our benefit, she contributes to Momversation to keep all moms in the know on a variety of topics and stir up the community dialogue.

Like most mom bloggers, Ellen never claims to know it all or be the expert on parenting, but rather offers her side of motherhood, just as it happens. Most readers would argue she’s doing a phenomenal job raising a beautiful family, while tackling a hectic lifestyle with grace and gumption in her favorite city. Baby Meets City is reassuring proof that growing a family in New York is more than doable; it can be an enjoyable and rewarding “beautiful chaos.” — Melanie Baker
