Beautiful and Bald Barbie Teams Up with 11-Year-Old Singer

After watching 11-year-old singer-songwriter Miranda Finn on YouTube, Jane Bingham, the woman leading the Facebook charge for Mattel to produce a “Beautiful and Bald” Barbie in support of pediatric cancer patients, she selected Finn’s original song, “Maybe I Can Change this World” as the campaign’s “theme song.”

Eleven-year-old Miranda Finn posted a YouTube video of the song she co-wrote with her mom Robin Finn and music producer Avishay Goren, “Maybe I Can Change this World,” and just four days later, she was contacted by Jane Bingham, the woman leading the Facebook charge for Mattel to produce a “Beautiful and Bald” Barbie in support of pediatric cancer patients suffering from hair loss.

beautiful and bald barbieBingham asked Finn to use it as the campaign’s theme song.

“We-and our 40,000 supporters-have been working hard to raise awareness of the need for a bald Barbie doll for young girls,” said Bingham, who is battling an incurable form of lymphoma and whose 9-year-old daugther watched her go bald from treatment. “When a friend sent a link to the YouTube video of Miranda singing, ‘Maybe I Can Change This World,’ it just fit.”

The Beautiful and Bald Barbie movement is working toward creating dolls that are bald to support those suffering from alopecia, cancer, and trichotillomania to let kids know that bald is beauitful and to help them cope with their own hair loss.

Based in Los Angeles, Miranda is working on her first EP and was eager to lend a support to Bingham’s cause.

“I was so sad to hear about kids fighting cancer and going through so much, including losing their hair,” Miranda said. “It makes me happy to think my song can make them smile.”

To support the cause, “Like” the Beautiful and Bald Barbie Facebook page.
