Westchester County’s foster care system is in need of more than 50 additional foster homes for children and teenagers of all age groups.
There are hundreds of children throughout Westchester County who need a temporary, safe, and loving home. Though Westchester County has a fantastic foster care system, there are never enough homes for theses vulnerable children, especially babies, teens, and sibling groups.
“At a minimum, the county is in need of 50 additional foster homes to serve Westchester children,” said Kevin McGuire, the commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Social Services. “As a foster parent, persons are given extensive training and reimbursement based on the child’s needs.”
Foster parents also have access to agency staff and can get to know other foster parents through the county’s foster care support network.
“In times of crisis, foster care provides children with a temporary safe and stable environment so that the child and their families get the assistance they need,” said Naomi Adler, CEO and president of United Way of Westchester and Putnam.
