For the
past few weekly newsletters, we feel that we’ve properly inundated you with
ideas for summer travel destinations, both near and fair, action-packed or
relaxing, seaside or in the mountains. (If you’re still looking for an idea for
a last-minute getaway, click here.) But by now we think it’s probably safe to
say that you’ve picked your trip, booked your ticket and maybe even packed your
bags. If this is the case, take a look at our suggestions for getting the most out of
traveling with kids; from ideas to get kids excited about the destination to keeping them busy, happy and stress-free on the car, plane or
train ride, we think there’s much to glean for parents traveling with kids
of all ages. —
For more ideas, check
out a recent article from BlogHer contributors; Mir Kamin shares her own
childhood memories (and how she did it differently as a parent herself!) and
shares numerous links to other great blog-devised ideas, such as no-mess art
projects for long car trips and ways to enjoy the ride yourself!
From a safety perspective, it’s always a good idea to check out the TSA’s guidelines for traveling with kids. With rules and
regulations about everything from safety screening for kids to how much baby formula can be brought in a carry-on, it’s a
great resource to familiarize yourself before you embark on your trip.
Finally, TravelWithYourKids.com
( a for-parents by-parents resource for fun and stress-free vacationing
with kids) breaks
down family vacations into helpful subcategories ( like "Before You
Go," "On The Plane" and "Going Home") and offers a
plethora of ideas on making your trip as enjoyable as possible for everyone
involved.
