Grow With Me

Kids can have fun and learn a lot from gardening; it can foster a deeper appreciation for the trees they climb at the park, the flowers they sniff at the market and the food they find on their dinner plates. And with the first signs of spring popping up all over the city, now’s a great time to start gardening with your kids. —

No backyard, you say? No worries! Kids will love learning to garden in a local community garden (find one in your neighborhood here), through a children’s gardening program (like this one at the New York Botanical Garden or this one at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden), or in a pot on your windowsill (check out these great tips on container gardening!).

Plus, get your kids pumped about planting, watering and weeding with a visit to one of the city’s exquisite gardens—check out the array of kid-friendly events coming up at the New York Botanical Garden, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the bucolic Wave Hill not to mention NYC Wildflower Week May 6-15.
