Well, the snow didn’t exactly arrive in time for a White Christmas, but seeing how it’s Christmas break for kids, we say it still counts. If the sudden arrival of snow has you reaching into your closets for snowboots and sleds, take a look at some of our favorite sledding spots in city parks, courtesy of a few city families.
* Riverside Park: "A very mild hill best for babies, toddlers, and little kids: The South Lawn between 73rd and 74th Street just south of the basketball courts and Elephant Playground."
*Central Park: CentralPark.com calls Pilgrim Hill (north of the 72nd St. entrance at Fifth Ave) "Manhattan’s greatest slope." The "runner up" is Cedar Hill, between 76th and 79th Streets.
* Battery Park City: "Teardrop Park near the big slide."
* Carl Schurz Park on York Ave: (Use entrance on 89th St). "The park has a few great slopes around the Mayor’s residence. My toddler boys have a
blast just having me pull them around on their sled on the flatter areas of the
park."
*Morningside Park between 119th and 121st Streets. "There’s a good variety of slopes,
for all ages, and plenty of flat space at the bottom to slow down before
reaching the fence."
* Prospect Park, Brooklyn: "Behind the Picnic House. Most popular hill in the park."
* Fort Greene Park, Fort Greene, Brooklyn: "Fort Greene Park by the monument."
Owls Head Park, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. "This park has a great family atmosphere and big hill with plenty of flat surface at the bottom to coast."
