Dan Zanes has been making homemade family music
since the turn of the millennium. His children’s pop-rock and American Folk tunes
are not just a hit for city-bred kiddos but for the adults that love them too. —
So whether you’re a Dan Zanes and Friends newbie or
a long time enthusiast, be sure to check out his performance with the Brooklyn
Youth Orchestra and dancers from Bed Stuy Veterans this Saturday, July 16 at The
Ezra Jack Keats Family Concert. Part of the summer long Celebrate Brooklyn!
Series, this event will also celebrate the legacy of the children’s author and
include readings of some of Keats’ beloved stories. The concert kicks off in
Prospect Park’s Bandshell at 4pm
but try and get there early to snag some of the best seats (read: prime picnic
grass) and remember to pack a blanket and snacks for the kids to munch on while
they sing along to Zane’s catchy tunes.
As an added bonus, Zane’s will be joined at the
concert by renowned instrumentalist Andrew Bird to perform songs from Zane’s
newest family CD “Little Nut Tree”, which Bird collaborated with him on, and
debuts September 27.
To get you excited, we’re giving away 3
autographed CDs of his “Catch That Train” release, the predecessor to “Little
Nut Tree”—as well as the winner of the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Musical Album
for Children. To win, email newyorkfamily@manhattanmedia.com
with your contact information and the subject line “Dan Zanes”. Deadline in
Friday, July 15.
