Sweet
tooths, rejoice: Butter Lane has
recently opened a new location in residential Brooklyn. Debuting in
the East Village less than
three years ago, this tiny store is now gracing Park Slope families with their
paper-lined pats of batter and buttercream baked goods. —
It’s
easy to see why Butter Lane has become
one of the city’s go-to treat spots for children and adults alike. In an indulgent
(and sometimes nostalgic) experience, the store re-imagines many beloved childhood treats and
translates them into miniature cake forms. Kids especially will love the banana
cupcake topped with peanut butter icing and mini marshmallows (dubbed “The
Elvis”), or a burnt caramel variation with a popcorn garnish. Now, both
locations even offer the on-stick cult favorite: cake pops.
But there’s something in the brightly lit Butter
Lane for adults, too. Complex flavors like
cinnamon honey, pistachio and sea-salted chocolate find their way into
buttercream icings and are sure to please the more sophisticated palate. Or how
about a sure-fire pick-me-up? Their mocha cupcake features whole coffee beans
nestled in a punch-packing espresso icing.
But
if you’re at all familiar with Butter
Lane’s rich and intense concoctions, you might
be surprised to find that they contain only half the sugar than those of other
average bakeries. One of Butter
Lane’s three owners, Pam Nelson, emphasizes
their all-natural baking approach: “If the cupcake frosting is pink, it’s
because of strawberries. If it’s blue, it’s because of blueberries.”
So whether you’re celebrating the new school year, a birthday, or
nothing in particular—check out Butter
Lane’s new location. If you’re going to
indulge, you might as well do it right.
