Round up your
cubs! After a 35-week national tour, the super-fun (and no doubt furry)
production of Berenstain Bears has arrived in New York. —
Based on three
beloved classics by Stan and Jan Berenstain, the live show gives us a taste of: The Berenstain Bears Learn about Strangers,
The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Junk Food and The Berenstain Bears Trouble at School. The show is written by
Michael Slade and directed and choreographed by Devanand Janki (who also
choreographed Junie B. Jones).
The story
line follows Papa Bear’s insatiable appetite for junk food, Sister Bear’s need
to stop talking to strangers, and Brother Bear’s need to work harder in school.
In each case, Mama Bear is there to save the day! (Phew.)
Mirroring
the literary content, we think that the live production’s plot is easy enough
for even the youngest kids to follow. The costumes and colorful sets bring the
cult classics to life and the tunes are upbeat and humorous.
Perfectly
timed at 55 minutes, Berenstain Bears
Live! is a real treat for young theater aficionados. (Just check out the
teaser!)
