The Big Umbrella Festival is the world’s first month-long festival dedicated to arts programs for children on the Autism spectrum and their families, launching during Autism Awareness Month this year. Big Umbrella’s core objective is to enrich the lives of children on the autism spectrum through inclusive art that engages, educates, and inspires. Check Lincoln Center’s website for more details. Please note: While most festival events are free, some events require the purchase of a ticket.

Kickoff the Lincoln Center’s Big Umbrella Festival with relaxed musical performances by Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could, a whimsical Americana mashup, and Actionplay Chorus, a group of young performers on the autism spectrum that perform their own original music. Seating is first-come, first-served, so be sure to arrive early. When the venue reaches capacity, a standby line will form outdoors.

Kick off Earth Day with the annual festival in Union Square that offers easy ways to make more sustainable and environmentally conscious choices in your everyday life. Highlights include exhibitors, such as green lifestyle products and services, live performances, talks, entertainment, activities for the whole family, a clothing and electronics recycling collection, as well as local food and beverage vendors. Also, witness the world debut of GoGo Cardboard Balance Bike by I.G. Cardboard Technologies and experience the interactive booth from Korean beauty brand, Innisfree, as they feature their new biodegradable sheet masks.

Treehouse Shakers

<div>Treehouse Shakers’ Branching OUT After-School program is for ages 12-14. This awarded program is for young people who identify as LGBTQIA+, or are seeking to become better allies. Branching OUT centers on discovering and exploring one’s story and identity through an intentionally artist-led format. During our community-based program, young people will explore and reflect on their own story to create a larger, more meaningful experience, while gaining self-empowerment and gathering with like-minded peers. Through the guidance of our awarded teaching artists, young people will create narratives that will be turned into podcasts, dances, songs or poetry. </div> <div> </div> <div>Young people have the opportunity to learn new art forms, work with professional artists, while building a meaningful community.</div>
