Music and
art go together like peanut butter and jelly—and most kids would agree. That’s why Beastie Boys guitarist Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz is hosting and DJing
a cooler-than-cool carnival and concert to raise funds for the expansion of the Children’s
Museum of the Arts this Sunday.
On May 22nd, check out the family carnival at
Webster Hall in the East Village from 1 to 5 pm. Tickets cost $25 for kids and $100
for adults. It promises to be an afternoon filled with family art
projects, food and drink, a special lounge for the older kids (ages 11-15), magic, costumes,
and live music. Enjoy jam sessions from famed children’s favorites including: Dan Zanes & Elizabeth Mitchell,
Oran Etkins’ Timbalooloo, and the Cangelosi Cards.
Post-carnival, stick around for a benefit concert from 6 to 9 pm, featuring music from Urban Blight,
Cassandra “Sandy” Reed, and more. Tickets start at $35 for general admission
and $100 for VIP status, which includes a limited open bar and premier seating.
The gang will be having so much fun…they won’t event realize the larger cause: the museum. CMA puts together a ton of programs for
young New York City artists. ARTogether offers families with children
receiving preventive care or in foster care to take a break and play together
in a relaxed, creative atmosphere. Free Art Island Outpost has gratis family
programming on Governors Island every weekend during the summer. Fresh Art gives kids a
chance to win $1,500 for the school of their choice and to have their art
featured on FreshDirect trucks and in an exhibit at the museum.
