Though the temperature outside is expected to take a downward dive, don’t let that deter you from exploring at least one of our picks this week. We’ve selected an eclectic mix, from fabulous fantasy to some serious science, so you are certain to be entertained, and you might even learn something to boot!

Beginning Thursday, November 13

Gingerbread Lane
New York Hall of Science

What better way to celebrate the upcoming holiday season than to visit the largest gingerbread village in the world at the New York Hall of Science! This village weighs 1.5 tons, measures 450 square feet, and is made entirely of gingerbread, icing, and candy. Chef Jon Lovitch created Gingerbread Lane out of 3,000 lbs of icing, 600 lbs of candy from 14 different countries, and 600 lbs of gingerbread dough. Included within the village are 1,000 gingerbread houses, a skating rink, six gingerbread cable cars, and more! On display through Sunday, January 11. Free with Hall admission.

Watch incredible stunts in this showcase performance of seven world-renowned champions in BMX, cyr wheel, and breakdancers, and basketball tricks. Set to beats by an award-winning musician fused with the rhythms of a chart-topping beat-boxer, this extreme show will excite the whole family. Runs through Sunday, November 30. Tickets start at $15.

Nature’s Fury
American Museum of Natural History

It’s difficult to understand why there are earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes, and hurricanes on our planet. In Nature’s Fury: The Science of Natural Disasters at AMNH, kids will learn about what causes natural disasters and explore their consequences. These natural phenomena will be explored through interactive displays and animations where visitors can generate a virtual volcano, monitor earthquakes worldwide, and manipulate a model earthquake fault.

8th Annual Children’s Book Fair

Meet your favorite local authors and illustrators at the eighth annual Brooklyn Children’s Book Fair at the Brooklyn Museum. The fair will feature a variety of storybooks, picture books, graphic novels, and for the first time, books for young adults. More than 30 Brooklyn authors and illustrators will read their books in the museum’s Rubin Pavilion. In addition to meet-and-greet sessions, there will also be hands-on arts and crafts and fun photo opportunities for kids. Free

Manxmouse: The Mouse Who Knew No Fear

The Dutch theater company Theatergroep Kwatta will present their adaptation of Paul Gallico’s children’s novel Manxmouse this Sunday at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. This one-hour production, which won the 2014 International Performing Arts For Youth Victor Award, tells the tale of Manxmouse  as he goes on a journey of self-discovery. Theatergroep Kwatta will amaze and delight with their use of everyday objects as props in this theatrical performance that teaches audience members to embrace our differences. Recommended for children between the ages of 5 and 11. Tickets are $19.

Terrific Tails: A Celebration of E.B. White
Symphony Space

Join Symphony Space’s Thalia Kids’ Book Club for a memorable evening celebrating the works of legendary children’s author E.B. White. Actors Naomi Watts, Liev Schrieber, David Hyde Pierce, Jane Curtin, and Michael Potts will perform a selection of White’s work, which includes Stuart Little and Charlotte’s Web. The author’s granddaughter and stepson will also be present for the festivities. Plus, don’t miss live music from The Scollay Square Quartet. Recommended for ages 7 and up. Tickets are $25.
