Families will see St. George take on a dragon — plus a whole lot more — at this month’s St. George Day Festival.
The annual event, which teaches kids about community, peaceful problem solving, and the environment, is taking over Tompkinsville Park on April 23.
For kids, there will be a teen theatrical performance about resolving conflicts; youth poetry readings about the environment; and more musical, dance and literary performances. The festival also offers craft and puppet-making workshops, a recycling relay race, and even a parade in which kids can dress as flower fairies.
The main attraction is the giant dragon puppet show and parade, which aims to teach children about peaceful conflict resolution. Instead of slaying the dragon, St. George and the 30-foot-long beast work out their differences and help each other through resource sharing. There will also be earth day exhibits, free bike repair, a stop-and-swap (bring what you don’t want and take what you do), a book fair and more.
St. George Day Festival at Tompkinsville Park [at the corner of Bay Street and Victory Boulevard in Tompkinsville, (718) 447-8256] is April 23, from noon to 9 pm. Free. For more information, call or visit www.stgeorgedaysi.org.
