Playground season will soon be in full swing (especially now that the skies are sunny again!). Just in case you’re looking for an inspired new spot to explore, we’ve compiled a short list of our favorite city playgrounds, like Heckscher in Central Park, Hippo Playground in Riverside Park, and the newly renovated playground in Union Square!
Plus, families will soon have a brand new playground to discover: opening in July at the South Street Seaport is designer David Rockwell’s "Imagination Playground," featuring elements like large foam blocks and other movable items that will allow kids to structure and restructure their environment, encouraging child-directed, unstructured free play. Families can get a feel for what it will be like at an interactive exhibition currently on view inside the Seaport Museum (which, with its fascinating exhibits on seafaring and the city, is a great place to take the kids any day).
