The New York Baby Show announced the five winners of its “2012 Best In
Show” awards, ranging from Britax,
the popular stroller and car seat maker, to aden & anais, a manufacturer of high-end swaddles,
bedding and nursery accessories. The other winners are Ubbi, which makes stylish and odor-containing diaper pails; Stroll-Away by MetroTOTS, a
space-saving door hook for strollers; and Lazoo,
a maker of kids clothes, books, apps and other products that emphasize play and
creativity. —
The judges all agreed that the show offered a lot of
special products and services for expectant and new parents, making the
selection of just five products for “Best In Show” a bit challenging. But there
was a consensus for each of the winners.
The five judges included: Liz Gumbinner, Publisher & Editor-in-Chief, Cool Mom
Picks; Melissa Keswin, Senior Buyer for Kids, Gilt
Groupe; Elena Mauer, Deputy Editor, The Bump; Eric Messinger, Editor, New
York Family magazine; and Mary Ann Zoellner and Alicia Ybarbo, Today Show Senior Producers and co-authors of Today’s Moms: Essentials for Surviving Baby’s First Year, and the upcoming Sh*tty Mom: The Parenting Guide For The Rest
Of Us.
Here’s more about the five winners of the “Best In
Show” Awards at the 2012 New York Baby Show:
aden & anais – Most
noted for their muslin swaddles, aden & anais
has grown to include a fuller line of baby and child products that are stylish,
luxurious, practical and affordable. Their latest invention, The Serenity Star,
is a true original: a feeding & sleep system that includes an electronic
feeding diary, nightlight, sound machine, clock and room temperature indicator,
all pulled together within a beautiful and nursery-perfect white star. More info: adenandanais.com
Britax – As one judge put it, Britax was
“the life of the party” at the New York Baby Show, keeping the energy and good
vibes flowing both with regular contests and events throughout the two-day
show. Of course, it didn’t hurt that they have such a popular product line of
strollers and car seats. Of special interest to families with sibs: their new
B-AGILE Double Stroller, the company’s first stroller to offer side-by-side
seats. More info: britaxusa.com
Lazoo – Inspired by a popular series of
Japanese children’s books, Lazoo offers a variety of products marked by a colorful
style and emphasis on imagination and play, including videos, apps, activity
books, and apparel. It’s amazing how their fun, engaging sensibility translates
onto everything from an app for drawing (“Squiggles”) to a boys romper. More info: lazoo.com
Stroll-Away by MetroTOTS – Almost every
city family could use more living space. The Stroll-Away, a storage solution
for bulky fold-up strollers, gives them just that by offering a convenient and
easy way for strollers to be hung from door tops. Its durable steel hooking
system, which is adjustable to any door size, works with most popular
strollers—and it’s simple and easy to use.

Ubbi – Diaper pails can be such dreaded
company. Ubbi has changed that with steel pails that are stylish, colorful
(eight shades to chose from), light-weight, and do a good job of keeping odors
contained within the pail. It can be used with typical kitchen garbage bags, or
for the green-minded there is also a washable and reusable, cloth eco-friendly liner.
Parents will appreciate how easy it is to use and to clean—and how easy it is
on the eyes. More info: ubbiworld.com
