Applause, performing arts for all ages, celebrates five years in Westchester with the Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Norm Rosenblum and trustee Andres Bermudez Hallstrom.
Applause’s mission to bring the love and appreciation of the performing arts to students has been successfully achieved in Westchester!
Applause Westchester has been at the forefront of teaching performing arts to students in Westchester (and Connecticut) since opening in 2008 at 114 W. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck. Applause Westchester was founded 18 years ago in New York City by Audrey Kaplan. Heather Capelle of Mamaroneck and president of Applause launched its Mamaroneck location in January 2008.
Since then, Applause Westchester expanded from offering classes just two days a week to hosting a wide range of classes for all ages. Younger students can now enjoy Musical Theater, Pop Star, Hip Hop and Singing classes, and Acting Workshops for pre-teens and teens. This is in addition to Presidents Week Camp, Spring Break Week Camp, Summer Camp for kids ages 3-15, private lessons in voices, piano, acting, and more. Applause Westchester also hosts Birthday parties and other major events at its beautiful space that overlooks Harbor Island Park. Applause’s classes for parents and caregivers include Mommy and Me classes – Broadway Babies and Rock ‘n’ Roll Babies classes – and Adult Hip Hop Cardio and Pilates.
“What makes us able to consistently deliver high quality classes is that our classes are taught by industry professionals who are currently out in the entertainment business auditioning, working, performing and directing,” Capelle says. “We are proud that some of our own students have gone on to become professional actors themselves working with some of the industry’s most well-known and successful actors.”
Applause students who are professionally acting include Henry Kelemen of Larchmont, NY, who was in “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” and is in ABC’s new drama “Zero Hour”; Sara Gilbert of Mount Kisco, NY who is in “Bratzillas”; and Emma Christopher who was in “Law & Order: SVU.”
Applause Westchester‘s recent celebration (at 114 W. Boston Post Road) included more than 80 friends and family, as well as Village of Mamaroneck mayor Norm Rosenblum trustee Andres Bermudez Hallstrom. Guests enjoyed a performance from the Applause Weekend Workshop teen group, as well as fun and games led by its Broadway Babies and Hip Hop teachers.
Applause’s experience in teaching performing arts is unparalleled in Westchester. Since its expansion to Westchester, Applause has hired local professional talent. Its staff has the knowledge and dedication that speaks volumes about the importance of having professionals with experience in the performance industry.
