action and animation, this Disney classic melds the magic of witchcraft and
WWII. The film centers on a witch forced to take in three children evacuated
from the London Blitz bombings. Although taking place during wartime, the film
manages to treat the subject lightly by gentle explanations. Though battle
scenes are shown, no blood is shed and no one is injured. At over two hours,
this film may be too long for younger children.

9. Edward
Scissorhands
. One
of Johnny Depp’s finest films, this twist on the ugly duckling tale focuses on the

attack. The movie follows Edward’s introduction to the real world by a kindly
Avon

children but a hit with tweens and older.
