This July, Oasis Day Camp on the Upper West Side will offer a new summer program for children ages 3-5 who have not been in school yet. The NYC camp will give children an opportunity to swim three times a week, take introductory sports classes including basketball and floor hockey, make art, dance, take nature walks through Central Park, and prepare for school. Activities incorporate number and letter recognition and pre-literacy skills while preparing kids for the group dynamics of a classroom setting.
The goal of the program is to combine sort of a level of care that that age group requires with a fun, very, very traditional summer camp program. So we’re not after just the care aspect of it, like a daycare,” says Alla Zaydman, director of family engagement at Oasis Day Camps. “We really want to have them participate in sort of a modified version, and have it be age-appropriate, of course, but with very traditional camp elements. Definitely [including] your tie-die days, dress up days, but also things like carnivals and little scavengers hunts.”
The preschool program is available from July 1- Aug. 23 from 8:30am-5:30pm with flexible pick-up options between 4:30 and 5:30pm. Pick-up and drop-off will be at the BASIS Independent School, which is located at 795 Columbus Ave., Upper West Side. The minimum enrollment, two weeks, will cost approximately $1350 with lunch included. To register, go to the Oasis Day Camp website and click on the “enroll now” button.
