Dining out with kids in NYC can be a pleasure or a nightmare,
depending on where you attempt to go. Here are a few spots that I’ve discovered
throughout the city that my two little Munchers (ages 15 months and 4 years)
and I agree are worth a repeat visit!
Landmarc: Boasting one of the most
extensive children’s menus I have ever seen, Landmarc really knows what kids
want—they offer everything from standards like macaroni and cheese and chicken
fingers with fries to green eggs and ham and peanut butter and Nutella. If your
kids/your tip are really good, your server might bring cotton candy to the
table for dessert!
Moomah: A great spot to bring your tot
in TriBeCa. Not only is the extensive menu local, seasonal AND organic (with
dairy-free and gluten-free choices), but kids are encouraged to engage in
beautiful and engrossing art projects while they eat!
Fatty Crab: A relative newcomer to
the Upper West Side restaurant scene, Fatty Crab’s uptown location serves up a
children’s menu that actually reflects what adults are eating, from dumplings
with soy to fish fry in a box. Fatty Crab is a great choice for adventurous
eaters.
Cercle Rouge: A typical French
bistro during the week, but on the weekends this adorable TriBeCa spot features
an entertaining magician at brunch! Tots of all ages are enthralled by his
magic and balloons—a great diversion so adults can actually enjoy their meal!
Brasserie Julien: Not only do
kids love the choice of desserts that comes with their meal at this Upper East
Side bistro, but it is pretty awesome to get their meals for FREE Monday-Friday
from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Fig & Olive:%uFFFDCheck out the
Madison Avenue location–okay, so they only have a kids menu at brunch on
weekends, but the best part about the menu (for us moms with little ones) is
that it includes Earth’s Best Organic Baby Food. So nice to not have to schlep
food for baby!
Brother Jimmy’s BBQ: Yes, Brother
Jimmy’s is a bar, but who knew that Kids eat free with an adults entrée—and the
food is good! The menu is also a fun diversion—instead of spelling out the
entrée selections, there are pictures for little ones to identify for
themselves, like a chicken and a hand for chicken fingers.
Blue Smoke: Tots love digging into
the ribs at this Murray Hill joint – and the Wikki sticks and cool communal
bathroom sink are fun kid-friendly features. A great bonus: the server brings
your child a cookie to decorate, which is then baked during your meal and
presented in a “to go” bag with the check.
Gusto Organics: Although they
don’t have a dedicated children’s menu, Gusto Organics is worth visiting
(regularly) if you are attempting to raise baby organic. The chef is willing to
purée any (within reason) of the entrees for you to stay (or bring home).
American Girl Café: No list of
kid’s restaurants in NYC is complete without AG! The food is surprisingly good
(for both adults and kids!), and who can resist the teeny highchairs for your
tot’s doll?
