Chickenshed NYC
About Us
Chickenshed NYC is a not-for-profit inclusive theatre company for children and youth
Chickenshed NYC offers inclusive, interdisciplinary theatre programs for preschoolers, children, and teens ages 2–18+. Rooted in the belief that art and science can powerfully inform and enhance each other, all programs integrate elements of both, using theatre as a megaphone for science and vice versa.
From early years to high school, participants explore acting, music, movement, dance, and storytelling in a warm, welcoming environment that celebrates diversity and creativity. Chickenshed NYC’s unique methodology brings together young people from a wide range of backgrounds—with and without disability—ensuring every voice is heard and valued.
In addition Chickenshed NYC has a Youth Leadership program for older participants, offering mentorship and creative development opportunities as they take on more responsibility within the company.
Through its Community Outreach initiative, Chickenshed NYC partners with schools and organizations to deliver performances for preschoolers and custom workshop or performance-based programs for elementary, middle, and high school students. These offerings can be tailored to support classroom themes and curricular goals.
With a commitment to low student-to-staff ratios and a deeply inclusive approach, Chickenshed NYC ensures every participant receives the support they need to thrive. Robust financial assistance and payment plans are available, helping remove barriers to participation and making space for every child to experience the joy and empowerment of theatre.
