Check out our slideshow roundup of nearby water parks, from Sahara Sam’s to Dorney Park. Slip and slide! *Gather the family for a day of fun at ConeyIsland! With nonstop activities and events, there’s something for everyone–we’ve rounded up our top 11 things to do (plus info on this Saturday’s Mermaid Parade). So Fun! *Sign up for a day of free soccer lessonsfrom Arsenal Football Club (for ages 5-14) and kick into the World Cup Spirit. Join the team on Saturday on Randall’s Island’s Field 80. Goal! WEEKEND PLANNER STARTING FRIDAY *Enjoy the New Jersey State Fair at the Meadowlands—expect over 150 rides and attractions. Travel next door! (Friday-July 6) *Take part in the festivities at downtown’s Wagner Park where the Swedish Midsummer Festival will take place—there will be wreath-making, children’s games, and treats. Head outside! (Friday) *Bring the family to Hudson River Park Pier to participate in the North River Historic Ship Festival complete with free boat rides, tours, and performances. Ahoy matey! (Friday-June 24) STARTING SATURDAY *The Barolosolo Cirkus from France combine comedy, modern theater, poetry and music in a performance set to grace Brooklyn Bridge Park. Venture to Brooklyn! (Saturday-Sunday) *Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade, one of the largest art parades in the nation, brings mystical creatures to life for a mix of all ages. Check out the costumes! (Saturday) *Make Music New York is celebrating the longest day of the year by hosting live, free musical performances—several are exclusively for kids—on city streets, sidewalks, and parks. Dance in the streets! (Saturday) *In a super fun workshop at the Tiny Scientist, little ones will identify reactants and products in chemical reaction experiments and make lip gloss to take home. Ages 5+. Get scientific! (Saturday) STARTING SUNDAY *BLDG 92, which is part of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, is hosting a family fun day this weekend—tour the rooftop farm and inspect the yard. Be an explorer! (Sunday) *Learn about the snakes of New York and the essential role they play in our ecosystem in a nature presentation at Wave Hill. Have a blassst! (Sunday) *At the Festival De Las Flores at Queens Botanical Garden, there will be face painting, food, dancing, and a petting zoo. Bring the fam! (Sunday) *Join “stand-up chameleon” Jackson Gillman in Central Park for a funny and educational round of music and stories about the animals, bugs, and flowers that make up our natural world. Hit the park! (Sunday) *Go on a unique nature walk in Hudson River Park—spot the birds and butterflies and differentiate the plants. Time for a stroll! (Sunday) MONDAY The Children’s Museum of Manhattan will open its five floors to families Monday night in honor of National Pride Week! Enjoy snacks, face painting, raffles, and special activities.
