    WEEKEND PLANNER

    STARTING FRIDAY

    Join Hudson River Park to catch a screening of “Despicable Me 2”—complimentary popcorn will be provided. Bring a blanket! (Friday)

    Watch Tada Youth Theater present a coming-of-age dance-theater piece called “Unsung” followed by an original family musical called “Heroes” about finding courage. Take a seat! (Friday through August 1)

    The Children’s Museum of the Arts is stopping by the Bronx Zoo to stage a special camouflage workshop—kids can make their own camouflaged paper critter to take home while admiring the real-life animals in the zoo. Be crafty! (Friday)

    “Manhattanhenge” refers to an annual event where the sun sets perfectly on the namesake borough’s East- and West-numbered streets—catch a special lecture before the phenomenon this weekend at the American Museum of Natural History’s Hayden Planetarium. Look up! (Friday)

    STARTING SATURDAY 

    Head to Coney Island aboard a subway car from the 1930s thanks to the New York Transit Museum’s Nostalgia Train Ride. All aboard! (Saturday)

    It’s time for the WeBop Family Jazz Party at Lincoln Center—this time, Louis Armstrong is being honored. Jazz time! (Saturday)

    Join the City of Water Day festivities, which will feature live music, food, and kid-friendly activities like free boat tours at various locations, including Governors Island. Yay for water! (Saturday)
