It seems like every winter we run through the gambit of animated movies and family favorites during those too-cold-to-play-outside winter days. Unfortunately, that seems to be just about everyday this winter. Your yearly quota for animated movies was probably reached weeks ago…and it’s only February.
So how about a change of pace…turn off the TV and get crafty! We here at New York Family have put together a list of remedies to cure your cabin fever…so read on for our favorite Pinterest picks for indoor crafts, or click HERE to see our original Pin Board!
1. HOMEMADE FINGER PAINTS:
Not only will the kids be able to help you make the paint, but once it’s ready, you can dive into hours of nontoxic fun! In the words of Ms. Frizzle, “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!”
2. SCAVENGER HUNT
This is a fun game for all ages. Get creative and come up with specific things to find in your own house. Have the kids find different kinds of craft items and challenge them to make something out of it.
3. SNOW STORM IN A JAR
Finally, a snow storm you can control! And in my opinion, five-ingredient experiments are the best kind of experiments!
4. PIPE CLEANER TIARAS
This one if for that pretty princess who is currently moping around your home. Help her turn a headband into a tiara and then play dress-up! Maybe Mom will let her try on those heels…just this once.
5. PERSONALIZED CERAMIC PLATES
Maybe your picky-eater will be more willing to eat the food off of the plate he or she made themselves.
6. TOILET PAPER ROLL ANIMALS
Start a collection and display these adorable new friends on the kitchen windowsill or on a shelf in the bathroom.
7. SHAPED CRAYONS
Have your child separate out all the broken crayons in their collection. Chop them up into little pieces and place them in a fun-shaped tray. Put the tray in the oven at 250 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Take them out, let them cool, and you have a brand new batch of crayons!
8. VALENTINE HEARTS
The project is great for the littlest ones, but challenge your older guys to get a little more creative. Turn them into cards and write letters to loved ones.
9. DIY INSTRUMENT
Accompany this plastic straw pan flute with a tissue box banjo and a set of of tin can drums and you’ve got yourself a band. Heck, you could be on your way to becoming the next Jonas Brothers!
10. POPSICLE STICK PICTURE FRAMES
Once these are made, have a photo shoot with the kids. Print out the new pictures and glue them to their newly made frames. Put magnets on the backs and stick them on the refrigerator so that you can always remember the best snow day ever.
