This Sunday: Listen To Your Mother

[Editor’s Note: We’ve long been fans of NYC mom of three Amy Wilson, ever since she wrote the book When Did I Get Like This? As the director of the big Listen to Your Mother production coming up at Symphony Space, she tells us why the live reading series has such a strong appeal.]

Listen to Your Mother: NYC is part of a national movement coming to 24 cities this Mother’s Day, with over 300 women and men telling stories of motherhood that are hilarious and heartbreaking and everything in between. With the formidable NYC talent pool to draw from, our cast has plenty of published authors and “aren’t you the one from that show” actors. But it also has people who have never done anything like this before–and it is the power of their stories that are at the heart of Listen to Your Mother movement, because every single one of us has an amazing story to tell.

Our cast hails from Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, New Jersey, Connecticut, and the Berkshires. Our cast is mothers, daughters, aunts, grandmothers, and a son. This show is the perfect Mother’s Day celebration–and no, it’s not for kids. It’s for YOU. On Sunday, have your breakfast in bed and macaroni necklaces in the morning, then at 5 pm come to Symphony Space and enjoy… you’ll still be home in time to tuck the little ones in!
