Theatreworks USA’s “The Lightning Thief” Musical Is Here!

Go on a heroic adventure through the world of modern Greek mythology with The Lightning Thief, Theatreworks USA’s new musical production based on the best-selling children’s book Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.

Lucille Lortel Theatre in Greenwich Village will be hosting all performances of the play for free through August 22 this summer, with July 24 being the Opening Night.

The musical will follow 12-year-old Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, who begins the story as an average school boy until he is thrown into a world of ancient gods and monsters, all the while struggling with his ADHD and dyslexia.

Percy is accused of stealing Poseidon’s lightning bolt, with only ten days to find the real ‘lightning thief’ and prove his innocence. With the help of his friends Annabeth and Grover, he must conquer obstacles, uncover secrets, and ultimately prevent a war between Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. Due to the content, this play is recommended for kids age 7 and up.

All 15,000 tickets for The Lightning Thief are free thanks to the Free Summer Theatre program, but watch out because they go fast! Tickets will be available each day, starting one hour before the show on a first come, first served basis. Also keep in mind that there will be a limit of 4 tickets per adult, per day.
