Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project Concert at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre

Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project
is a multimedia charity project of
original lullabies composed and sung by Broadway stars (like our March issue’s
cover mom
Audra McDonald), established to raise money for breast cancer
foundations. Don’t miss this free concert, where you’ll get to hear some of the
tunes and watch excerpts from the project’s documentary.

Dirty
Sock Music Romp at the Jewish Museum

Join the Dirty Sock
Funtime Band’s lead singer, Mike, for an interactive music show. Kiddos can
play with musical toys and instruments and hear kid-friendly classic rock
songs.

Sea Creatures Workshop at
Children’s Museum of the Arts

103 Charlton Street

12pm

Deep sea divers (er,
artists) ages five and up should head to shore (CMA’s Fine Arts Studio) for a
mixed-media workshop that’s right up their alley. Utilizing sculpture
materials, kids can construct a jellyfish, octopus or starfish.

Thursday, May 10

Design
a T-shirt or Tote Bag for Mom at Moomah

161 Hudson Street

10am or 3:30pm

Kids can decorate a tee or tote for Mom using stencils, fabric paint and
markers. The workshop begins with a frolic in Moomah’s fabulous Funky
Forest. 
Children younger than four must be accompanied by an adult.

Friday, May 11

School
of American Ballet Community Auditions

40 Division Street

6:30 and 7:30pm

Aspiring dancers, head to P.S. 124 in Chinatown for free community
auditions for the School of American Ballet. This is specifically for boys and
girls ages 6-10, and previous training is NOT necessary.
Pre-registration is
recommended but not required.

Saturday, May 12

Mother’s
Day Weekend Garden Party at the New York Botanical Garden

Bronx River Parkway at
Fordham Road

12-5pm

Celebrate mamas! Come Saturday or Sunday to partake in outdoor games of
badminton and croquet, kite flying, cupcake decorating or a homemade card
workshop. Plus, enjoy the music of The Banjo Rascals, and be sure to find the
photographer for a professional family photo.

Family Saturday at the French Institute

Storytime, book-making, film shorts,
Mother’s Day crafts and the world premiere of
Bearskin

Adventuring Portal

<p><a name="m_-1473885667065203258__Hlk72147528"></a>Adventuring Portal runs Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) games for kids.   We have created a safe online space for tweens and teens to learn and play D&D.</p> <p>Our D&D Summer Camp session are a one-week experience.  Monday – Friday.  Each day will be 3 hours of gaming (with 2 breaks build in).  15 total gaming hours for $180.  If you have played with us before, you are entitled to 10% off.   </p> <p>Need your kids, nieces or nephews, grand kids or neighbor’s kids to be occupied for a bit so you can get work done & take care of your to-do list? Maybe your tween or teen is still a bit isolated and craves connection with their peers? Whether your teen/tween has played D&D before or is brand-new to the experience, this safe space brings players together to have fun and solve problems as a team in ways few other online opportunities do.</p> <p>All our games focus on experiential learning.   Our players leave knowing all the basic game play as well as experiencing: teamwork, bravery, compassion, generosity, negotiation, improvisation, gamer etiquette, strategy, critical thinking, problem solving, cartography and probability - all through online D&D adventuring!</p> <p>We are an inclusive organization and welcome gamers who are LGBTQIA+ and those on any spectrum. </p> <p>All girls’ groups available. </p> <p>I am a parent, a certified elementary school and middle school math teacher and last summer in the midst of the mess started Adventuring Portal, an online Dungeons & Dragons business for kids.
