How gorgeous are all those blossoming trees out there?  Mother’s Day weekend provides the perfect opportunity for the whole family to get out of the house and enjoy the abundance of events happening in NYC. Here’s what’s going on this week:

Friday, May 10-Sunday, May 12

Sideways Stories from Wayside School
The Celebration of Whimsy Theater
Various times
Louis Sachar’s celebrated Wayside School book series has been adapted for the stage in this production from The New Acting Company. The production follows Myron, Leslie, Dameon, Rhondi, and Bebe in their adventures on the 30th floor of Wayside Elementary, a school whose classrooms have been accidentally built on top of one another. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 (cash) at the door. Recommended for children ages 5 and up. No infants will be admitted.

“Fragile”
New Victory Theater
10:30am, 12:30pm & 2:30pm
The simple yet elegant puppetry in “Fragile,” a French puppet theater show with no dialogue, will have audience members ages 4 and up riveted to their seats. Set to an original score, “Fragile” tells the tale of a travel-bound puppet whose route is constantly blocked by obstacles that he must overcome in order to arrive at his destination. Tickets are $20. Running time is 40 minutes with no intermission.

Saturday, May 11

Kite Flight
Socrates Sculpture Park
11 am-2 pm
Let’s go fly a kite during Socrates Sculpture Park’s 11th Annual Kite Flight! All ages are invited to construct, decorate, and then fly their resulting one-of-a-kind kite in the park. This year, artist Miguel Luciano will lead a workshop on Caribbean kite traditions. Event is free and will occur rain or shine. All kite materials will be provided.

Sunday, May 12

Milagros Day Worldwide Mother’s Day Walk
Park Row & Centre Street, Manhattan
10am-3pm
Milagros Day Worldwide, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting victims of domestic abuse, is hosting a Mother’s Day walk across the Brooklyn Bridge this coming Sunday. Immediately following, there will be a multicultural concert in Cadman Plaza Park for all ages. Registration is $10 per individual or $8 per group.
