“Penguins” IMAX Film

“Penguins,” the new IMAX film being screened at the American Museum of Natural History, chronicles a King Penguin’s journey from youth to adulthood on the remote island of South Georgia. Written and narrated by naturalist and acclaimed filmmaker Sir David Attenborough, this nature documentary will interest young animal lovers and their parents. Runs through January 9, 2014. Free with museum admission.

“My City Park”

Join Making Books Sing and The New York Public Library for their touring production of “My City Park.” In this original children’s musical theater production, Milo is determined to save his local park from destruction and enlists the help of his friends, Bucky the Squirrel and Odessa the Owl. This free 45-minute puppet show highlights the importance of parks and green spaces in urban cities in a fun way that kids ages 3 through 10 are sure to enjoy. New Museum Block Party

The New Museum invites one and all to their free annual Block Party in SoHo’s Sara D. Roosevelt Park. Guests can get creative during arts and crafts workshops, hear live music, and receive free admission and public tour access to the New Museum during party hours. Activities include creating your own landscape postcards, sea creature trading cards, and kinetic sculptures.

Firefighter Appreciation Weekend
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

Give thanks to the men and women of firehouses in and around NYC during Firefighters Appreciation Weekend at the Intrepid. During this two-day event families can attend fire safely demos, watch fire station cooks compete for first place in the Battle of the Boroughs Cook-Off, listen to music from the FDNY Emerald Society Pipes & Drums, and more. Firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and personnel will be admitted free of charge to the Intrepid this weekend. Family members will receive %50 off the general admission price (with proper ID).
