A Few Of Our Favorite Events And Activities This Weekend

Though summer is on its way out, the city is still swarming with family-friendly events this weekend. Check out our picks for the coolest flicks and fests. (Now, let’s just hope the rain stays away!)

FLICKS. Free outdoor movie screenings (for families, no doubt!) are in abundance this Friday night. Charlotte’s Place will host Family Friday Pizza and Movie Night where they will show the animal-filled film, Madagascar. Teens will get a thrill out of the Spielberg dino adventure, Jurassic Park, playing at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Brooklyn’s Narrows Botanical Gardens is the perfect picturesque spot to see the ’06 animated hit Over the Hedge. And don’t forget about the Disney musical Tangled showing at Hudson River Park featuring the voices of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi.

FESTS. Now onto the many fun-filled festivals that this weekend has to offer. On Saturday, Erin Lee and the Up Past Bedtime Band, Still Saffire, and the Itty Biddies will all perform during the Jam on DUMBO Free Summer Family Festival. The Second Annual Wash Ave. Rocks Street Fair will boast a summer fashion show and local Brooklyn restaurants will wage a tasting battle. For a Black College Expo and youth swimming demonstrations, visit the Celebrate Harlem Festival on Saturday. Lastly, your child will become a kite-flying aficionado after attending the FlyNYC Kite Festival, which will include free kite workshops.
