LEAH BLACK Leah Black is the founding editor of New York Family Baby. She is the former executive editor of New York Family and has a 1-year-old son, Avi.

AIMEE DALY Aimee Daly is a meat eater living in Queens with her vegetarian husband and finicky daughter. She spends her time coming up with meals that everyone will enjoy after spending most of the day keeping her toddler occupied. Prior to mommyhood, Aimee had a full-time career in human resources at a Fortune 500 company and was addicted to crocheting.

NATALIE DIAZ Natalie Diaz, mom to 6 year old "twinnies," is the founder of Twiniversity, the nation's fastest growing free online community for parents of multiples as well as a class series for expectant parents right here in NYC. Natalie is also the director of the Manhattan Twins Club, where she learned how important support is when parenting your multiples. She is a teacher, motivational speaker, twin mother advocate, humorist and writer.

DEBRA FLASHENBERG After several years as a yoga student, Debra Flashenberg became certified as a vinyasa yoga instructor and is now Director of the Prenatal Yoga Center, Prenatal & Postnatal. After being witness to several "typical" hospital births, Debra felt it was important to move beyond the yoga room and be present in the birthing room. Drawing on her experience as a prenatal yoga teacher, labor support doula and childbirth educator, Debra looks to establish a safe and effective class for pregnancy and beyond. Debra is the proud (and tired) mother of new baby boy, Shay.

KRISTEN HAAS Kristen Haas lives in the New York area with her son Dylan and husband Derek. Prior to mommyhood, she worked as a full-time editor. Since becoming a mom, Kristen freelances as an editor, has become an expert baby wrangler, and (when she has time) enjoys cooking, baking and writing. LIZA HUBER Liza Huber is an author, wife, mother of three and an Ambassador Mom for the March of Dimes. She is the Founder of Sage Spoonfuls, a new book and product line that gives moms all the tools they need to make homemade baby food with ease. She believes in feeding babies fresh, whole foods to give them the healthiest start to life and prevent picky eating as they grow into toddlers. She shares her knowledge on feeding your baby solids as well as her experiences as the mom of a preemie here on New York Family Baby.

ANGELA JOHNSON After 10 years of working in the television industry, Angela Johnson is a freelance writer and stay-at-home mom. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and daughter. In the very little free time she has, she enjoys practicing yoga and baking. She also considers herself a very amateur DJ.

KATIE MAIN Former New York Family editor Katie Main welcomed her first child, son Sam, last summer. Originally from the South, she lives in Brooklyn with her family.

ELISABETH REED Elisabeth Reed is the shopping editor for Born and Bred. Prior to becoming a freelance writer, she worked in the financial services industry. Elisabeth was born and raised in New York and loves exploring the city with her husband and two children, Brandon and Julia.

ALEX RICHARDS Alex Richards is a writer/artist living in Brooklyn with her husband, toddler Trixie, and two disinterested cats. In addition to her young adult novel, "Back Talk", and a degree in photography, her pastimes include making no-budget horror flicks, cooking, finding new ways to love glitter, and hanging out with her fantastic daughter.

MEGAN ROBINSON Megan Robinson is a writer and mother of one. Originally from Oklahoma, she lives in Brooklyn with her Egyptian-born husband and their toddler daughter. In her former life, she worked in marketing communications for a financial services firm.

FAYE ROGASKI Faye Rogaski, who is expecting her very first child this spring, is the founder of Manhattan based socialsklz:-) tools to thrive in the modern world. The program offers fun, interactive life tools for kids and young adults including social interaction and communication skills. She is an adjunct professor at New York University, she lectures throughout the tri-state area on personal branding and is on the board of the American Heart Association. She%u2019ll be sharing her journey as a NYC business owner, juggling the day modern day joys and quandaries as an expecting/new mom, in the big city.

AMITY SPIEGEL Amity Spiegel is a total beauty junkie who lives in Brooklyn with husband Mike and son Cole. She is an esthetician with a holistic focus, a once and future triathlete, a lover of trashy rock biographies and healthy eating and cooking.

This Busy Manhattan Mom Prefers Shopping In Jersey City

If you’re lucky enough to have Fresh Direct deliver to your apartment, consider yourself a fortunate soul. Down here in the bowels of the city (and I say that with the most love possible, as I was born and raised here in Little Italy) Fresh Direct doesn’t feel we deserve their services. After speaking to their corporate office, I learned that they have to compete with too many other delivery trucks and that parking was a “real issue.” Seriously? Like parking anywhere in this city is not an issue?

With six-year-old twins in the house, you can imagine how much food we go through. Our family drinks enough milk to warrant getting our own cow...but how would he fit in the fridge?

Indeed, grocery shopping for this family has never been easy.

When the twinnies were small, I stayed local. I would visit Met Foods where the isles are no wider then a very narrow doorway. Every shopping experience was like a scene out of a game show (think Supermarket Sweep from the ol’ days). I would leave the house with my twinnies in their Valco Twin Trimode and me armed with laundry bags. Yes, laundry bags!

You have to understand that the stroller I had was not one of the smaller tandem ones. I learned quickly that it was better for the kiddos to have room than for me to fit through the aisles of supermarkets. So…how did I do it? Picture this: I would get to the market with list in hand and push the stroller in front of me and pull a grocery cart behind me. My stroller would only fit through the front, rear and side isles, so I would start with those, grabbing what I needed as I passed. When I’d get to an inside isle--one of the ones that my stroller wouldn’t fit down--I would leave the babies at the end of it and run, yes, literally run, up and down the aisle collecting items off my list. Thinking about it now, I am laughing out loud. Folks must have thought I was crazy, and you know what? They would be right.

I repeated the “sweep” until I finished my shopping and then made my way to the registers. After paying, I would load up all my groceries into the two laundry bags I had brought and hang them off the stroller handle. NOTE: I don’t recommend doing this--it’s not the safest decision and you should never hang bags or any other items off of your stroller (even though I know we all do it).

I shopped like that until they were almost four. Once we got rid of the stroller, we had to change it up. It was around that time that I smartened up and started shopping in Jersey City. Hey, did you know that Jersey City is like the Mecca of supermarkets? Yup, right outside the Holland Tunnel there are two large ones within blocks of each other and one is even right next to a BJ’s! Wait, it gets better: the one that is next to BJ’s lets you take your cart right from BJ’s into their store so there is no need to run back to your car.

So if you want to take a trip to New Jersey, email me and I’ll let you know when the twinnies and I go on our next food shopping adventure to the Garden State.

The moral of the story: When it comes to groceries, where there is a will there is a way!
