Imagination Playground at The South Street Seaport: A ground-breaking place space devised by architect David Rockwell, The Imagination Playground lets kids design, modify and adapt their own playground, using water and sand, plus movable parts comprised of giant foam blocks, wagons, mats, fabric and more. The park also offers families the help of Play Associates, trained adults who supervise and help stimulate thoughtful play.

Heckscher Playground: As the largest playground in Central Park, there are plenty of swings to enjoy, a giant sand pit, and even a mote where kids can cool off in the heat of the summer. Located at Seventh Avenue and Central Park South from 61st to 63rd Streets.

Ancient Playground: Yet another remodeled playground that reopened in September 2009, this playground has an Egyptian theme, with pyramids to climb and a custom-built tree house. Located on the East Side of Central Park at 85^th Street.

Hippo Playground: Featuring hippopotamus statues right in the middle of the playground, not to mention hippo sprinklers! Located in Riverside Park on 91^st Street.

Union Square Park Playground: This recently-reconstructed playground is three times larger than the original and has new, state-of-the-art equipment such as “the mountain” and “the spirallo.” Located in Union Square Park near 17^th Street.

Playground at Pier 51: This maritime-themed playground has a great sprinkler system, educational features such as brass animals, and fantastic views of the Statue of Liberty. Located at Pier 51; cross at Horatio and West 12^th Street.
