Halloween Countdown

So with all
this excitement, why not draw out your family’s Halloween celebration to more
than just Sunday afternoon? To help you pack in all the Halloween fun you
can fit in the rest of the month, we’ve compiled all the great events happening
around the city from now until Halloween weekend, from spine-tingling ghost
tours to costume parades in the park to Halloween-themed concerts. Plus, for

Adventure Garden
, New York Botanic Garden
Head to the
New York Botanical Garden to see over 500 carved pumpkins,
including three of the largest pumpkins in the
U.S. that weigh over 1,500 pounds. On
weekdays from
1:30-5:30 p.m., kids can come dressed up in
costumes apple-sauce making, creepy critter exploring with magnifying glasses,
performances by Alice Farley Dance Theater, and more. The weekends are extra
special with cider pressing and tasting demonstrations and Halloween parades at
12 p.m. and 2
p.m.

Boo at the Zoo

The
Bronx Zoo
Throughout
the month of October, The Bronx Zoo hosted Boo at The Zoo, boasting great,
slightly spooky, animal-themed Halloween fun each weekend. Kids can enjoy a
haunted 3D Safari, an extinct animal graveyard to learn more about the animals,
hay mazes, costume parades, magic shows, craft workshops, and yummy treats. This
Saturday, October 24th, kids can take in carving demonstrations of a
150-pound pumpkin from
noon to three, and can even meet members

Strand Books
Listen to a
spooky reading and make an art project before entering a costume contest!
Author George Bates will read from his new book “On a Windy Night,”
before kids of all ages make a coloring project and vie for prizes in a costume

Books of Wonder

Reading
is
Fundamental hosts a panel of authors who have contributed to the spooky
anthology of horror tales. FEAR Fans will have a chance to ask questions and
have their books signed by R.L. Stine (Goosebumps), Suzanne Weyn (The Barcode
Tattoo), Jennifer Allison (Gilda Joyce and the Ladies of the Lake) and Ryan

House Museum
Older kids
will love taking a half-hour tour of one of the most haunted houses in
Manhattan by candlelight at the Merchant’s House Museum near Washington Square. The house is draped in dark fabric
to add to the suspenseful and strange stories of spirits that still haunt the
house. Make sure to get your tickets in advance because the event sells out. Every

New Victory Theatre
This highly
stylized imagination of Edgar Allen Poe’s life is a perfect addition to the
Halloween season. This seven-person cast uses original music to celebrate the
somber work of the gifted artist in a production fit for children 11 and up. This

Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden
Take in a little history this holiday at the Mount
Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden
. A live showman will be presenting spooky
tales like Poe’s The Raven as well as animated comedies and songs. All will be
projected on a full sized screen as entertainment done back in the 1890s before
television!

Storytelling amphibian Flaubert Frog spins tales of ghouls and goblins
at this annual Bryant Park event. The creeptastic activities don’t stop

Practice being a mad scientist this Halloween at the Sony Wonder

Pumpkin Chucking
The New York Hall of Science

October is Catapult Month at the New York Hall of Science. So, is there
a better way to spend Halloween than watching a 20-foot-tall catapult
make a jack-o-lantern go SPLAT!?! Since the Hall of Science is
administering this demonstration, it is educational. Children (ages 5 and up) will see
how changes to the settings on the catapult will change the trajectory

At the Annual

<p>Young Actors at Strasberg offers a comprehensive array of acting programs for students in grades 2 – 12. Aviator Sports Summer Day Camp

<p>Aviator Sports Summer Day Camp offers five daily rotating activities such as swimming, ice skating gymnastics, rock climbing, parkour, indoor/outdoor turf, and courts plus more in its ample 175,000 sq. ft. facility and 35-acre outdoor area. Aviator Summer Camp also offers off-site and on-site field trips such as a day at Green Meadows Farm, Launch Trampoline Park, and a Brooklyn Cyclones game. The summer camp runs from 9 am-5 pm with early drop off and late stay available. Bus transportation is also available throughout Brooklyn. Lunch and an afternoon snack are included. Sign up by February 28th to receive up to $300 off camp with early bird discounts.</p>

<div>Treehouse Shakers’ Branching OUT After-School program is for ages 12-14. This awarded program is for young people who identify as LGBTQIA+, or are seeking to become better allies. Branching OUT centers on discovering and exploring one’s story and identity through an intentionally artist-led format. During our community-based program, young people will explore and reflect on their own story to create a larger, more meaningful experience, while gaining self-empowerment and gathering with like-minded peers.
