Events: Top Kid-Friendly Activities For The Week

Move over February, March is here! Lots of different dance-centered events on our list this week, plus the tale of Robin Hood with a new twist. Even though spring has not yet sprung, our picks will surely put a spring in your step!

Beginning Saturday, March 7

Robin Hood
The Galli Theater

Robin Hood steals from the rich and gives to the poor, and when King Goldnose begins collecting taxes from village residents, Robin Hood hinders his plans. This interactive show takes audiences to Sherwood Forest where Robin Hood tries to right the wrongs of the greedy and restore hope in the hearts of many. Kids who sign up for the post-show workshop will participate in drama games with one of the actors before putting on their own version of the show. Recommended for ages 4 and up. Tickets are $15 for children and $20 for adults. Runs Saturdays and Sundays through Sunday, March 29.

Beats, Rhymes and Breaking
Symphony Space

Get ready to have an electrifying, dance-tastic time at Symphony Space this weekend during Beats, Rhymes and Breaking! The Manzana City Crew will break into windmills, head spins, and old-school pop and locks during this hour-long breakdancing performance. Tickets are $21 for adults and $14 for children.

New York Theatre Ballet: GOOSE!
Florence Gould Hall
11am, 1pm & 3:30pm
The New York Theatre Ballet will perform Keith Michael’s “GOOSE!” as a part of the “Once Upon a Ballet” series. Audiences will be enthralled as their favorite nursery rhyme characters like Little Bo Peep, Jack and Jill, Little Miss Muffet, and others dance across the stage in this whimsical production. Tickets start at $35 for children and $40 for adults.

Pilobolus Rules!
Brooklyn Academy of Music
Various times
Families will get an inside look at how Pilobolus Dance Theater puts together its acrobatic dance pieces during the 50-minute show Pilobolus Rules! at the Brooklyn Academy of Music this weekend. The dance troupe will also perform four of its most popular numbers with the help of the audience. Recommended for ages 6-11. Tickets are $12.

Björk Exhibit
Museum of Modern Art

This month, check out the Museum of Modern Art’s retrospective of Björk, the singer, composer, and producer, which draws from her eight full-length albums as well as her collaborations with artists, directors, photographers, and musicians. This captivating exhibit was compiled by Klaus Biesenbach, MoMA’s chief curator at large in close collaboration with Björk herself. The exhibit will also include a brand-new immersive music and film experience commissioned by the museum, which alongside instruments, a theatrical presentation, photography, and video, will tell the story of Björk’s music and creativity in an incredible display. Perfect for older kids with an interest in music and art, this exhibit will inspire and intrigue all ages. Runs through Sunday, June 7. Free with museum admission.
