Disney On Ice Review: Elle Belle Checks Out “Princesses & Heroes”

All Princesses and Princes
All Princesses and Princes

Prepare for your wish upon a star to come true at “Disney On Ice Princesses & Heroes” presented by Stonyfield YoKids Organic Yogurt. Mickey and Minnie Mouse had me at hello as they welcomed and took us on eight awesome adventures with Tinker Bell leading the way. It was like the who’s who of Disney princesses and heroes. Everyone was there! Each Disney classic was transformed into a kiddie-size version of the tale on the ice. I was mesmerized from the moment the princesses and heroes took the ice in their gorgeous costumes and with their graceful skating. This little princess had an ear to ear smile the whole time.

I felt like I was right there in the fairy tale as the stage transformed with Disney magic into an enchanted set for every one of the eight stories. As each princess skated in everyone oooh-ed and aaah-ed and when the music started we couldn’t help but sing-along. It all began with Aladdin and Jasmine taking us to “A Whole New World.” And then there these seven cute little guys Mommy told me were Snow White’s friends the Seven Dwarfs. And Snow White herself came and sang.

Princess Belle let us be her guest in a dynamic production of “Be Our Guest” where the energy filled the room as dishes and forks and spoons whirled everywhere. Lumiere was a gracious host and dancer—I never saw a candle ice skate before! Best of all, the number kept getting bigger and better and finished with everyone doing a kick line like my favorite Rockettes. Next, Eric and Ariel took us “Under the Sea” –there were so many bubbles we really felt underwater. It was a show-stopping number that had everyone clapping and dancing along with Sebastian and Flounder. Tiana made a brief cameo as well.

As the second act began I was transported into Sleeping Beauty’s storybook complete with Maleficent turning into a dragon before my eyes. Don’t worry I wasn’t scared but amazed as the dragon began to glow in the dark and breath fire onto the ice. It was truly sensational! And of course, Philip saving Sleeping Beauty and waking her with true love’s kiss wasn’t half bad either. If only the fairies turned the ice to red, and blue and green like in the movie. Maybe next time. After, Rapunzel skated briefly almost as an interlude to my favorite….”Frozen!”

Anna and Elsa stole the show as “Frozen” made a natural transition to the ice. This story was told in the most detail, featuring all my favorite songs and characters from the movie from “Love Is an Open Door” to “Do You Want to Build a Snowman”! And Olaf was there, too. There were sparks going off (literally) and Elsa even made it snow on everyone as she “Let It Go.”

And they certainly saved the best for last as Cinderella, my favorite, arrived in style in a carriage on the ice. She went to the ball and met Prince Charming. Being at the ball with Cinderella and seeing the start of her happily ever after made me glow inside and out. If only I left my glass slipper at the show so I would have to go back and see it again.

The grand finale featured each and every princesses and hero skating together. It had me in awe. My jaw dropped and my hands hurt from clapping so much. The amazing costumes, skating and all my favorite princesses at once was a dream come true!

The whole family will enjoy the breathtaking skating, loveable characters, and the happily ever after. It is magical as each princess finds her wish come true! Tickets are sure to sell fast so be sure to visit Disney On Ice at disneyonice.com.

Rosetta Institute of Biomedical Research

Summer Science Camps for Tomorrow’s Medical Professionals

We offer a variety of workshops on molecular medicine for high-achieving high school
and middle school students interested in pursuing careers in medicine or related
fields, such as biomedical research, drug development, pharmacy, bioengineering, or nursing. Workshops are taught by PhD-level instructors with years of research and teaching experience. Camps are offered in summer and winter and there are online and in-person options available.

Through engaging lectures and hands-on laboratory classes, students learn normal molecular and cellular biology, and then learn how these normal processes are disrupted or distorted during the development of disease. There is a heavy emphasis on experimental design, modern drug development, and the emergence of the era of personalized medicine. To conclude the workshop, students use what they have learned to create an original research project. More broadly, workshop attendees strengthen their academic skills, build their college portfolio, and explore potential career options while making friends from around the world and experiencing college dorm life in a safe environment.

Our university-based workshops are held at Columbia University, Imperial College London, UC Berkeley, and UC San Diego, and both residential and commuter options are available. University-based workshops include Molecular Neuroscience, Molecular Biology of Cancer, Astrobiology, AI-Enhanced Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology of Aging, Neurological Bioinformatics, Molecular Immunology, Bioinformatics of Aging, and Bioinformatics of Cancer. Biomedical Research – a workshop focused on learning modern molecular biology laboratory techniques - is taught at our lab in the Bay Area, CA.

Our online workshops include Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Medicinal Chemistry and Medical Bioinformatics. Intro to Cellular and Molecular Medicine is our entry-level workshop that is only two hours/day. Students in the Medicinal Chemistry and Medical Bioinformatics workshops learn how to use online tools to analyze biochemical data.
