The holiday season is the perfect way to volunteer your time and effort to those who are less fortunate. Here are a list of kid-friendly activities to promote charity and understanding! —
Operation Santa Claus: This program was started by the New York City Post Office to answer the hundreds of letters to Santa from children. It helps give your children perspective and shows that not everyone can come from a life of privilege. This event runs until Christmas Eve. 441 8th Avenue, 212-330-3000; operationlettertosanta.com.
God’s Love: We Deliver: This charity creates nutritious, individually tailored meals to people who are too sick to shop or cook. On Christmas Eve, they need volunteers with a car to make deliveries, in each borough and in New Jersey. 166 Avenue of the Americas, 212-294-8158; glwd.org.
Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen: Feed the hungry this holiday by volunteering with a soup kitchen! Families can help the church with serving on the food lines, greeting guests, collecting meal tickets, handing out food and drinks, and clearing and cleaning tables after the meal is over. 296 9th Avenue, 212-924-0167; holyapostlessoupkitchen.org.
Posh Pets Rescue: Adoption Van at TD Bank: The Day after Christmas, help save an animal’s life by volunteering at the Posh Pets Rescue adoption event! Help shelter animals find their forever homes this holiday season. Check out their website to email them about volunteering at this event. 2109 Broadway, 917-319-430; poshpetsrescue.org.
